PDHPE

Arndell Anglican College presents the PDHPE syllabus in a rather unique manner. The syllabus is completed across 2 different departments – those being Christian Living and Physical Education. The CL department takes on the responsibility of teaching the Personal Development and Health requirements, while the PDHPE department concentrates on the physical development of the child.

The PE Program

In devising the program, the PDHPE Department has ensured it meets the requirements of the Board of Studies while providing students with fun, challenging and worthwhile learning experiences across a variety of activities.

An outline of the program appears below. Where possible it remains as viewed, however, due to the dynamic nature of College activities there may be one or two minor modifications.

We’d like to introduce you to:

¶ Miss Megan Southwell (BEd PDHPE)
      Head of PDHPE
Miss Southwell has been teaching at the College since mid way through 1999. She currently teaches 2 Unit PDHPE for both the Preliminary and HSC courses. She also teaches Year 9 PASS and PE For Years 7-10.

¶ Mrs Rosemary Cornick (BEd Physical Education with Honours)
Full time PDHPE staff and Sport co-ordinator.
Mrs Cornick came to join the team towards the end of 2003. Her experience makes her an invaluable team member and she can be found teaching PE from years 7-12. Her knowledge in the classroom means students in Year 10 PASS benefit from her teachings this year. Mrs Cornick has expanded the sporting program through her role as Sports Co-ordinator and presents students with a multitude of opportunities for participation. Mrs Cornick is very passionate about providing students with the opportunity to pursue their sporting interests.

¶ Mr Peter Gordon (BHealth Science(PDHPE) Grad Dip Ed (sec PDHPE)
      Full time PDHPE staff
Mr Gordon joined the College in 2004 and brought an element of balance to the department as well as providing a positive male role model to the students. He has a keen desire to see proper Football (as in round ball) become the dominant football code in the school. In 2009 he teaches HSC PDHPE, Year 9 and 10 PASS and PE from years 7-11.

¶ Miss Daniela Falecki (BEd Physical and Health Education)
             Part time PDHPE staff

It is with great enthusiasm that I introduce Miss Falecki as a part time member

of our department. She is already known to students as a result of casual teaching during

2008. Miss Falecki brings a wealth of experience to the role and the students in her care

will be provided with plenty of interesting learning opportunities. We welcome her to our

team and trust that students in PE classes from Years 7-10 will enjoy the learning

          opportunities Miss Falecki presents.

  ¶ Mr Glenn Wilkins

Head of HSIE and Part time PDHPE staff

Mr Wilkins is also a new recruit to the PE department. He will supplement his HOD role in

HSIE by providing practical opportunities for Year 11 students in PE.

 Overview of Elective Subjects

Year 9 and 10 Elective:      PHYSICAL ACTIVITY & SPORTS STUDIES

The Physical Activity and Sports Studies Course is a new syllabus, designed by the Board of Studies. The aim is to provide students with an interest in this area the chance to further their studies in both practical and theoretical components. Where possible, opportunities are provided for students to learn theory concepts in a practical setting. The course also serves as a good introduction for those students wishing to do the senior PDHPE course.

The units covered over the two years are based upon anatomy and physiology, fitness, nutrition, coaching, Australia’s sporting identity, event management, and issues in sport including technology.

In both Year 9 and 10 there is a unit called Sports Smorgasbord, which is a practical unit. Activities are varied in nature and involve using the schools facilities as well as those of the local community.

By the end of this elective, students will have had the opportunity to develop advanced skills in health and activity related areas and provide those with interests and aspirations in such fields a sound foundation for further studies.
