Senior Library Centre

At the beginning of 2007 Arndell opened its Senior Library Centre (SLC) in the new H-Block building. The new triangular SLC has spacious areas for recreational reading and a mezzanine workspace big enough to accommodate a large class group. All the staff and the students are very pleased with the functionality of the Library Centre, and it is well utilised by everyone across the Senior School.

Parents can borrow books at anytime for themselves, from the Parent Borrowing Bookshelf, which has resources to assist in developing knowledge about effective parenting and general child and adolescent welfare.

The Senior Library also contains a bank of 32 computers, which enables every student to work independently on research work when required. These computers are used by class groups every lesson as well as lunchtimes and before and after school. It is a popular place.

Thanks to the 2009 Federal Government Schools Grant, 30 new laptops have also recently been installed upstairs on the mezzanine.

Junior Library Centre

The Junior Library Centre (JLC) was reorganised last year to permit our younger students to more easily locate the resources in the Stage One Room, which has moved closer to the front of the library. All classes come regularly to the library for borrowing and computer research work. All Junior School students must bring a library bag to borrow, for the protection of our resources.

We are excited by the news that our application has been approved to build a new Junior Library Centre where the oval is now located, thanks to the current Federal Government School Grants Provision. We are looking forward to the commencement of this new building, and especially, to moving to a much bigger facility. The current Junior School sports oval will be moved further down, where there is still plenty of space.

Finding us Online

Both Arndell Library Centres offer comprehensive eServices, including a full online catalogue (OPAC). All our eServices can be accessed anytime from any online computer, both onsite and at home. Availability of all library resources can be checked in the search bar at the top of this page but, for security reasons, our online encyclopaedic databases can only be accessed after logging in through the Student Portal. Most of these databases have a citation facility to assist referencing accuracy when preparing assignment bibliographies. There is also a link to assist students to prepare bibliographies for their assignments. Further assistance is provided in the Student Diaries.

Opening Hours & Staffing

The Senior Library Centre is open from 8:00-4:00pm on Mondays (because of staff meetings) and 8:00-4:30pm from Tuesday to Friday. The Junior Library Centre is open from 9:00- 3:30pm Monday to Thursday. It is closed on Fridays. Both libraries are closed for the 20 minute recess break.

In 2009 the JLC is staffed by Mrs Pat Rankin (Teacher Librarian) and Mrs Debbie Sharvell (Library Assistant).

The SLC is staffed by Mrs Connie Stephens (Head of Library Services & Careers Adviser) and Mrs Annette Waterhouse (Library Assistant).

Visitors are most welcome to drop in and browse around anytime we are open.
