Technology Mandatory Stage 4 (Years 7 & 8)

All students are exposed to all of the areas of study within the two year period giving them adequate insight into the various areas available for future exploration!

Subjects offered in Year 9 & 10 (stage 5)
Textiles Technology

Students are introduced to the important role of clothing and accessories in society.

They will focus on the competent use and care of equipment in the textile room and the development of techniques and skills with regard to basic garment construction.

Students will be introduced to commercial patterns from selection and purchasing, through to reading and interpreting information. From this, they will be able to design and construct articles of clothing to their individual requirements.
 
Students will learn of fibres, yarns and fabrics in the process.
Industrial Technology- Timber
Wood Technology incorporates a range of skills and attitudes that allow students to develop their own ideas into practical projects.
Through the design process they develop thoughts and ideas into drawings and plans. Students then use a range of construction skills to bring their ideas to life. They manage their design projects to completion and then take home a range of useful furnishings and items.
Students experience a range of hand skills and wood machining techniques as well as drafting, wood turning and safe working habits and procedures.
Food Technology
The Course involves students in areas of domestic, commercial and industrial applications of food technology. Nutrition & Consumption and Food Preparation & Processing are the core strands.
The main components of the syllabus are:
· The Processes: These involve learning experiences based on designing, researching, making and managing.

· The Content Component: Relate to food production, processing structures, properties, marketing and consumption.

· The Perspectives: Promote the importance of learning about the impact of food technologies on society and the environment

· The Focal Issues: Provide themes for study which will expand on the individual needs and interests of the student.

Subjects offered in Year 11 & 12 (Stage 6)
Textiles and Design
The study of Textiles and Design can offer an excellent future to our young adults!
 
The Preliminary Course
There are 3 modules and 2 projects- Design, Properties and performance of Textiles and TCF Industry are the three modules studied.
 
The HSC Course
There are 3 modules and a Major Textiles Project which is worth 50% of the HSC marks. The modules include Design, Properties and Performance of Textiles and TCF industry with focus on different aspects than the preliminary course.
Community & Family Studies
It helps students investigate life issues and to critically analyse practical life situations. It aims to develop in each student an ability to manage resources and take action to support the needs of individuals, groups, families and communities.
 
The Preliminary course consists of three mandatory modules- Resource Management, Individuals & Groups and Families & Communities.
The HSC course consists of three mandatory modules and one option module.
This includes Research Methodology, Groups in Context, Parenting & Caring, with the common option being Individualsand Work.
Industrial Technology- Timber
The preliminary and HSC courses are organised around four sections which includes Industry Study, Design & Management, Workplace Communication and Industry-Specific content & Production.
 
The preliminary course of 120 hours, consists of project work and an industry study that provide a broad range of skills and knowledge related to the focus area chosen and an introduction to industrial processes and practices.
 
The HSC course, of 120 hours, consists of the development of a major project and industry study. The major work is worth 60% of the HSC marks.
V.E.T Hospitality
It provides the opportunity for students to gain credit towards the NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) and credit towards national vocational qualifications under the AQF. (Dual accreditation)
This course can provide your child with the basic skills and knowledge suitable for employment in a hospitality environment and also provide pathways for university and other tertiary study. It is comprised of 8 compulsory units of competency and 4 units of competency from the commercial cookery strand along with additional units from the elective pool.
Students must complete a minimum of 70 hours of mandatory work placement.
