Where did the term go?
Half way through the term and a huge number of activities have been completed, not the least of which are the mid-year exams.  It is, as always, my desire to encourage a really pro-active approach to study. Challenging students to find success in small ways leads to more success in the future.
Congratulations to all involved in the combined Family Fun Day and College Open Day. This event enabled the College community to come together, to see what can be done and to share in a vision for the future.
Reminders:

Swine Flu
This blog serves as a reminder that the current situation with regard to the swine flu virus, whilst varying from day to day, requires us to have contingency plans in place in case of school closure.
Students have been instructed to:
·         Wash hands thoroughly after visiting the toilet
·         Cover their nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing
·         Throw used tissues in the garbage bin or flush them down the toilet
·         Avoid sharing drink bottles, mobile phones, etc.
If they have the symptoms of the flu to ensure that their parents get them checked out and to stay at home if possible.
The College has undertaken the following:
·         All toilets have medicated soap dispensers for washing hands
·         The systematic sanitizing of phones, keyboards, screens etc.
·         Screening students who exhibit flu like symptoms and contacting home as soon as possible

Contingency Plans for Short or Long Term Closure
Short Term Closure = 5 days
·         Letter issued to parents via the eldest child.
·         Work can be set on-line for primary students and high school students can complete assignments and assessment tasks.
·         Student Portal to be used to post work.

Long Term Closure = 5 days plus
·         Targeted student groups for on-line learning and on-line support. Years 10, 11 and 12
·         Student Portal posted work for junior high school years
·         Work sheets - Student Portal posted - for primary classes.
·         Use of the website as a mechanism for informing parents of the status of the closure
At this point there is no indication that we will be affected by the above closures but it is clear that the impact of the virus, whilst minimal, does affect young people.
The situation is uncertain, however a little extra hygiene can never go amiss.
