What a Performance!

Wednesday, 3 September 2008

Arndell has been experiencing waves - perhaps not quite a tsunami of events, but a pretty big wave nevertheless. Sometimes it comes in the area of sport (and there have been many representative carnivals on in recent weeks to keep the athletes very busy) but just now the wave appears to be a Performing Arts wave. Last Saturday night I had the great pleasure of going to the Dance Spectacular, "Dancing in the Street", and what a wonderful night I had. The show was one of the slickest that I have encountered in a long while; the dancing (of which I am no expert judge) was vibrant and exciting to watch and the spectacle was at times colourful and full of bounce and at other times genuinely moving. Great praise must go to Mrs Wilson, who masterminded the show, to Miss Windon and students who helped with the choreography, to countless staff who assisted behind the scenes, and, above all, to the dancers (a cast of about 40!) who were just wonderful. It was a night to remember!

On Friday night this week we will all be going to the Talent Quest. Taken on by Miss Doman this year, the Talent Quest has been through an audition (almost a semi-final) stage and 18 acts have been chosen to perform for the Final. I am particularly pleased to see that several students, who have not been on show before, have put themselves forward and have made it to the final night. The spread of talent is delightful to see.  Please join us if you can - but there are many tickets left, so get in quickly!

To compete the wave, there will be the Final Concert of the UK Choir group, in St. Matthew's church, Windsor, next Friday night, September 12, at 7-30. The choir is now well prepared for its overseas adventure and the standard of its recent singing has been very high. In addition, the Handbells ensemble, which will also perform overseas, will play for you too. The repertoire is partly sacred music (quite a lot of our overseas engagements are in major cathedrals) and partly secular. It has afforded us a great deal of fun and of satisfaction to get this concert together and we hope you will join us for the night on the 12th.

On reflection, it is indeed a tsunami of performance events, showcasing some of the very best things that the school can offer. We hope you will support us in as many of these events as you can.
