Thoughts from the Advocate

Saturday, 2 August 2008

You have the Newsflash, so you know the dates and events. But turn the pages in this newsletter (manually, or electronically – it doesn’t matter!) to find out about:

  • Colonial Day in Year 3
  • our Chaplain Mr. Sedorenko’s Golf Swing
  • Photo Day next Tuesday: best uniform please
  • and lots of Performance Evenings coming up

May I urge you all to be involved in as many of the forthcoming events as you possibly can.

I need to inform parents of my own situation in the College in the months ahead. Many of you know about (and have spoken to me very kindly and thoughtfully on the matter) Mrs. Goddard’s recent ill health, namely, the return of breast cancer from many years ago. She has been undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy, but the future is a bit uncertain for her. I shall be at school pretty much as normal this year, because I have wonderful family support and so all essential caring is covered. However, in 2009 the situation will be different.

I need, therefore, to advise parents that I shall be taking a period of extended leave, beginning at the end of this year and lasting (probably) for all of 2009. During that time, Mr. Webb will be Acting Headmaster; as he has been at other times in the Colleges history, he will be magnificent in that role. I know things will continue to hum along in the school and that all necessary support will be cheerfully and willingly given.

We are also aware, at staff and Council levels, of how many Arndell parents and families are “doing it tough” at the moment. Please, never hesitate to talk to me about your situation, because there are many ways in which we can help. As a school, we want to be of service to our community: we are not just a place to which you send children 8.30 -3.00!!
And when things are tough, remember where we can always put our trust:

“To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul;
in you I trust, O my God (Psalm 25)
