Learning a foreign language means stepping into a whole new world of experience. As young people have limited chances to mix with other cultures or to travel, learning a language through school is an important way of growing in understanding and openness to the wider world.
At Arndell Anglican College, languages other than English taught is French and Italian (in the senior years). We teach French:
- At beginners level in Years 5-8 to all students
- As an elective in Years 9-10
- For beginners and continuers in Years 11-12 for the Higher School Certificate
Communication is the goal of using language, so we focus on a communicative approach in our classes. French is the official language in 33 countries of the world and is the second most widely taught language in the world (after English), so it is very useful for travelling. We also teach an appreciation for the French culture and discover the many ways it has influenced our own.
